JAMAICA, Queens — A teen was arrested Friday on suspicion of shooting a peer in the face with a BB gun, allegedly because he was suspicious that the victim had a photo of his girlfriend on his phone, a law enforcement source said.

It happened at 87th Road and Parsons Boulevard, near Hillcrest High School.

A 14-year-old boy was walking when suddenly someone tapped on his shoulder. He turned around to find a 15-year-old boy who allegedly told him, “I heard you got a picture of my girl on your phone.”

The second boy then pulled out a BB gun and shot the younger boy in the face, hitting him in his eyebrow, the source said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police took into custody the 15-year-old, who is expected to be charged with felony assault. His name has not been released because he is a juvenile.

The Department of Education is working to determine if the teens involved attended Hillcrest High School, near where the incident took place.
