NEW YORK – PIX11 News followed up with two groups of outstanding students Friday, one in Bed-Stuy and the other in Newark.

KIPP Rise – Girls Running Club thought we were going to talk to them about a race they participated in last weekend in Central Park.

But instead, we had good news for them: Modells joined us with gift certificates for the whole team.

Across two rivers in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, Friday is prom night for the Boys and Girls High School. They reached out to PIX11 News for help when they couldn’t afford to celebrate prom, and after their story aired, donations poured in.

But still, one homeless teen didn’t have anything to wear. So a PIX11 News reporter donated his own tux for the student to wear to the big dance.
