SOMERVILLE, N.J. — A New Jersey man convicted of murdering a New York City woman has been sentenced to life in prison.
Somerset County prosecutors say 35-year-old Felix Graves-Dardon, of North Plainfield, must serve nearly 63 years before he becomes eligible for parole under the sentence imposed Friday.
Graves-Dardon was found guilty in March of murder and a weapons offense in the 2012 slaying of 30-year-old Yadira Blaimayer-Ortiz. Prosecutors have said the Brooklyn resident was strangled and repeatedly stabbed in an attack that severed her jugular vein.
Police found Graves-Dardon wrapped in blood-soaked bedding in the basement of the apartment building where he sublet a bedroom. Officers found the victim’s body in an alley.
An attorney for Graves-Dardon has said that he was severely intoxicated that night and doesn’t remember what happened.
