Police first responded to a call about a woman stabbed at 215 E. 164th St. in the Grand Concourse section around 10 p.m. Thursday.

When they arrived, a 38-year-old woman was unconscious and unresponsive with multiple stab wounds inside the apartment, police said.

She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not been released pending family notification.

The husband initially told police two men had forced their way into the couple's apartment after the woman opened it upon hearing a knock.

The men then allegedly stabbed her multiple times and left.

Police took the husband, who has minor cuts and scratches on his hands, in for questioning and later named him a "person of interest."

The investigation is ongoing.
