MANHATTAN — Most of western Manhattan is gridlocked Thursday because of downed wires on the Battery Park Underpass, authorities said.

The wires are down at West Street and are affecting traffic in both directions, according to the NYC Office of Emergency Management.

Traffic was jammed as far up as Hell’s Kitchen. It was not immediately known when the scene would be cleared.
