MANHATTAN – New Yorkers are familiar with angry outbursts.

It’s part of living in this sometimes chaotic city.

But countless witnesses surely never expected the angry ranting of a belligerent man inside a midtown Manhattan grocery story Wednesday morning to end with police officers fatally shooting him on the sidewalk.

The suspect, Garry Conrad Jr., of Fort George, wrestled to the ground with a responding officer on the corner of Eighth Avenue and West 49th Street.

When he got to his feet, he pulled out a knife on a responding NYPD officer and a sergeant. Both officers drew their weapons - and they fired a total of nine shots.
