Man arrested for stealing religious painting from Washington Heights church

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan — A 64-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for stealing a religious painting from a Greek orthodox church in Washington Heights, police said.

Washington Dominguez, was arrested and charged with burglary, police reported. He was caught on surveillance walking into Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church on 124 Wadsworth Ave. shortly before 12:30 p.m. on May 8.

Dominguez, walking slowing with a cane, took off his jacket and covers the religious icon with it. He then fled the church, according to police.

Dominguez was described as a man about 5-feet 3-inches tall and weighing around 150 pounds.
