Will Coney Island Boardwalk earn landmark status this summer season?

Beginning Memorial Day weekend, another summer season is in full swing in New York City.

Thousands will celebrate along the Coney Island Boardwalk and at the beach. It's one of the city's top destinations for tourists and New Yorkers.

New York City Council is considering a resolution supporting the landmark status for the boardwalk. 50 council members have signed on to the measure. The Landmark Preservation Commission is again reviewing the official application.

In the past few years, sections of the boardwalk have been replaced with concrete. The city tested the surface and found it to be durable and easier to replace.

Summer time hours begin in Coney Island and at city beaches Memorial Day weekend. Deno's Wonder Wheel will begin operating 7 days a week.
