Missing 3-year-old girl in Battery Park City found safe, nanny arrested

TRIBECA, Manhattan — The 3-year-old girl who was reported missing with her nanny in Battery Park City was found safe and returned to her family early Wednesday morning.

Police found Gabriella Russo, and the nanny, Fatima Alexander, a little after midnight Wednesday.

Alexander was arrested and charges are pending, according to the NYPD. She is currently in police custody in the 1st precinct.

Russo was last seen with Alexander, 55, of Brooklyn, leaving the child's home on River Terrace around 9:15 a.m Tuesday.

Police sources told PIX11 News that the nanny was scheduled to take the toddler to Preschool of America day care on Market Street, but when the child had not arrived by noon, the parents and police were notified.

The child is Hispanic, approximately three feet tall, approximately 44 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. The nanny is approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall and approximately 120 pounds.
