FAR ROCKAWAY, Queens – After Superstorm Sandy, one local mom decided to organize a prom dress giveaway for the many families financially affected by the massive flooding. Since then, Angela Hines has turned that initial event into an annual tradition.

It’s one of the many projects she undertakes as part of her organization Project Window. The nonprofit serves as a way to give back, after living a life of poverty and violence in Far Rockaways Edgemere housing projects. Now a successful lawyer, it’s Angela’s mission to help other girls realize their full potential.

Project Window’s Queens of Far Rockaway Free Prom Dress Giveaway takes place Saturday, May 14th from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Goldie Maple Academy in Arverne, Queens.
