Priest struck in the arm by stray bullet in Queens: NYPD

SOUTH OZONE PARK, Queens – Police said a priest was hospitalized after being struck by a bullet early Sunday.

It happened around 12:18 a.m. at 134th Street and Rockaway Blvd. in South Ozone Park, Queens, the NYPD said.

Police said a 49-year-old man, who was later identified as Reverend Damien Ekete, was shot in his right arm. He was walking along the 134th Street when he heard shots and suddenly felt a pain in his arm.

Ekete was taken to Jamaica Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police believe he was not the intended target of the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
