Suspect whispered ‘it’s okay’ while trying to rape woman in Bronx: police source

SOUNDVIEW, The Bronx — Police are searching for a man they say tried to rape a woman in an apartment building in the Bronx in April.

The incident happened Friday, April 26 around 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Croes Avenue and E. 174th Street in the Soundview section of the borough.

According to police, the suspect followed the victim, 29, into the lobby of an apartment building.

He then allegedly covered her mouth and groped her. Police sources say the suspect whispered "it's okay" to the victim while he allegedly attempted to rape her.

The woman was able to fight the suspect off. She suffered scratches to her face but refused medical attention at the scene.

Police released surveillance video from a nearby bodega of a man who is sought for questioning.

The suspect is described as being in this 30s, 5-foot-5 and approximately 180 pounds.
