SAN FRANCISCO — McDonald’s is currently testing garlic fries at multiple restaurants near San Francisco.
“Gilroy Garlic Fries,” priced at around $2.50, are served in an open paper tray and feature garlic grown in Gilroy, California — which is best known as “The Garlic Capital of the World.”
In a news release obtained by TIME, McDonald’s said:
“The new fries are made-to-order in McDonald’s kitchens where restaurant employees toss French fries in stainless steel bowls with a purée mix that includes ingredients, such as chopped Gilroy garlic and olive oil, parmesan cheese, parsley and a pinch of salt. The garlic fries are part of a trend at McDonald’s to experiment with regional flavors and food on its menu.”
If the regional menu trial is successful, the item could expand to over more restaurants in California later this year.
