Man, 2 dogs shot, house set on fire in Suffolk County

YAPHANK, N.Y. — Police are investigating after a man and two dogs were shot, and the house they were at intentionally set on fire in Yaphank, Suffolk County Tuesday evening.

It happened at 116 Long Island Avenue, Yaphank, around 5:30 p.m.

The man was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

One dog died and another was taken to a local shelter. The victim is a friend of the family who owns the house.

Police say the suspect fled the scene.

The Yaphank Fire Department extinguished the home which was fully engulfed.
