HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. — Police are urging residents to lock their cars and keep garage remote controls out of sight as to not be the next victim in a string of home robberies.

A man got into unlocked cars parked in the driveways of homes on Dale Court and Janet Court earlier in April, Suffolk County Police said.

The suspect used the garage door remote control found inside the car to gain access to the garage and get into the house, police said.

In both instances, the residents were home, sleeping upstairs.

The Suffolk County Police are reminding residents to lock their cars, hide garage remote controls, and lock secondary doors into the house from the garage.
