BLOOMFIELD, N.J.— Parents out enjoying the sunny weather with their kids were disturbed to hear about a reported child luring attempt.

A suspect in his 50’s allegedly told a group of young boys: “Do you want me to throw you in the van?”

The boys were all ages 11 or 12— police say they and their parents reported that the incident occurred at around 4:30 in the afternoon on Sunday.

Today, police kept a close eye on the children in a playground in the park.

"I did see two police officers out today,” said Mike Gonzalez, who was walking with his baby around the park, "Normally when I walk here maybe one goes through the park, but these guys are stationed.”

Investigators describe the suspect as heavyset.

The boys did not report seeing a van, but officers are interviewing them today to get a better description so they can put out a sketch of the suspect.

“It’s scary now to have kids,” said mom, Sasha Quispe.

According to authorities, the kids did the right thing when approached— they ran, told their parents and police.

Anyone with information should call the Essex County Sheriff’s Office or Bloomfield Police.
