NJ Transit Morris and Essex service resumes after person fatally struck

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — NJ Transit service on the Morris & Essex line has resumed normal service after a person was fatally struck during the Monday evening commute in South Orange.

According to the NJ Transit website, service has been restored in both directions due to a trespasser fatality.

Service was temporarily halted on the line around 5:30 p.m.

It's unknown why the person was on the tracks.

They have not been identified.
