Homeless man stabs victim in the neck with scissors in Times Square: NYPD

MANHATTAN — When a passerby refused to give money to a homeless man in Times Square, the transient allegedly pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed the man in his neck, police said.

The encounter unfolded about 8 a.m. Sunday outside 785 Eighth Ave., near 47th Street, police said.

Zaki Smith, 26, allegedly approached a man in his 50s and demanded money, police said. The older man refused and Smith allegedly stabbed him in the neck with a pair of scissors he had been concealing.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Smith has been taken into custody. He faces charges of robbery and assault, police said.
