23-year-old shot in back at Campos Plaza in East Village

EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan — A man was shot in the back in front of Pedro Albizu Campos Plaza I Thursday night, police said.

Police received a 911 call around 10:44 p.m. about a person shot at 635 East 12th St., police said. At the scene, they found 23-year-old Elliot Caldwell unresponsive and unconscious with a bullet lodged in his back.

Caldwell was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There has been no arrests made and the investigation is ongoing.
