Crash with motorized scooter in Queens leaves victim in critical condition

GLENDALE, Queens – At 3:45 a.m. Saturday morning, police responded to a crash at Cooper Avenue and 73rd street.

A 21-year-old suffering severe trauma was found on the road and was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, police said.

Preliminary investigation showed the victim was an operator of a motorized scooter and was traveling east on Cooper Avenue, according to police.

A 38-year-old driver of an Acura MDX was traveling west on Cooper Ave and hit the victim head-on, police said.

The driver was uninjured and remained on the scene. His charges are pending though police say alcohol may have been involved.
