EAST PATCHOGUE, N.Y. -- An elderly couple was killed when a fire engulfed their home of more than 50 years in East Patchogue on Long Island Thursday.

Emergency officials responded to the blaze around 12:36 p.m. at the couple's house at 50 Swezey Street. Alfred Romeo, 88, and his wife, Angeline Romeo, 85, were found dead on the first floor.

Police say the couple had lived in the house for more than 50 years.

Neighbors tell PIX11 that the man was a lifelong resident and a Korean War Veteran.

The cause of the fire has not been released, but investigators say it does not appear to be suspicious.
