JERICHO, Long Island – A crash on the Long Island Expressway snarled the Thursday morning commute for miles through Jericho.

Eastbound lines on the expressway were closed at Exit 41 through Exit 43. By 6:30 a.m., traffic has started trickling through the area but earlier was at a standstill. Westbound lanes are open but the ride slows down when passing the scene.

Drivers are being diverted through Jericho, but those diverted commuters are having to navigate around a second, seemingly unrelated crash on the nearby service road.

Instead of taking that service road, drivers heading east should take the Northern State Parkway to get around the mess.

It’s not clear when the scene will be clear and the lanes will be reopened.

Police in Nassau County said no details were available about who was involved in the wreck or what their condition may be.
