NEW YORK — Couldn’t get on Instagram? You’re not alone.

Instagram’s app and website went down Friday, sending users into a frenzy. People began reporting the issue around 3 a.m. and it affected users around the world.

At first it appears to be an internet connection issue with the “cannot refresh page” icon showing up. But as people continue to press the refresh button, nothing showed up. On the website, a 502 error showed up.

A massive outcry about the Instagram outage took over Twitter just moments after.

Instagram was back for most people in the U.S. by 3:25 a.m. Some people in other countries, such as New England and Sweden, were still reporting that the app was down. By around 3:35 a.m., the app was fully restored.

It’s unclear what caused the outage, however some speculate the new update has been causing the recent issues.
