CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn – A phony police officer preyed on a girl in Brooklyn, threatening to arrest her when she couldn’t provide him with her school ID, authorities said.

NYPD released a sketch of the culprit Friday asking for the public’s help to find him.

It happened about 8 a.m. March 7 along West Fifth Street between Wolf Place and Avenue V in Brooklyn, police said.

A 13-year-old girl was approached by a stranger who tugged on her backpack and demanded to see her school ID, police said. When she said she didn’t have a school ID, the man told her he’s a police officer and could arrest her for not carrying ID – then he left.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
