Off-duty New Jersey officer found shot to death in car

SAYREVILLE, N.J. — An off-duty police officer was found to death Monday in New Jersey, his body found inside his car in the parking lot of a closed movie theater complex, law enforcement sources said.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey says the officer was found dead near the defunct Amboy Multiple Cinemas off Route 9 in Sayreville.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating along with the Sayreville Police Department, according to a spokesman for the prosecutor's office.

Police cars and investigators were linked up on a highway next to the closed theater.

The officer's manner of death has yet to be determined. Autopsy results were not immediately available.
