FRANKLIN, Ohio — A woman has been arrested after admitting to police that she dipped her 4-year-old stepson’s legs into scalding hot water as punishment.

According to WCPO, authorities responded to a home in Franklin, Ohio Wednesday to find the boy in a crib, not breathing and with third-degree burns.

Anna Ritchie, 25, placed the boy’s legs in the scalding hot water as a punishment and then put the child to bed early Tuesday night before he was found unresponsive Wednesday morning.

He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It is not yet known what prompted Ritchie to discipline the child.

Ritchie faces a felony endangering children charge and was originally being held in the Warren County Jail on a $100,000 bond. That bond amount increased to $350,000 after the coroner’s ruling. She is set to be arraigned by video in Franklin Municipal Court on Friday.
