WHITE CENTER, Wash. — A customer with a concealed carry permit fatally shot a masked man swinging a hatchet inside a 7-Eleven store Sunday morning, KCPQ reported.

King County Sheriff’s office received a call around 5:45 a.m. about the incident at the convenience store located in White Center by Seattle. The store clerk said a masked man went into the 7-Eleven and started wielding a hatchet toward a customer, according to KCPQ. He was silent during the whole incident, witnesses told deputies at the scene.

The masked man attacked the 58-year-old store clerk before a customer shot him in the stomach. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The store clerk suffered minor injuries.

“Fortunately, because of this customer with his weapon, this could have been a lot worse,” said King County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cindi West told KCPQ.

The 7-Eleven clerk said the customer with the pistol is a regular at that store.

The hatchet-wielding man is said to be a man in his 40s. Police will release his name after the investigation, KCPQ reported.
