MIDTOWN, Manhattan —Two NYPD officers shot at a Bronx housing project in February were honored during the Big East tournament championship game at Madison Square Garden Saturday.

Oficer Diara Cruz, 24, and Patrick Espeut, 29, assigned to Police Service Area 7, were on routine patrol inside the Melrose Houses when they were shot at point blank range.

Gunman Malik Chavis, 23, fired multiple shots at the officers. Cruz was hit in the torso below her bulletproof vest and Espeut was grazed in the face. Chavis later took his own life.

Both officers took center court at MSG during a timeout of the championship men’s basketball tournament game between Villanova University and Seton Hall Saturday night.

Seton Hall claimed its third tournament title, beating Villanova 69-67.
