Amazon.com’s homepage displayed the following message Thursday afternoon.

NEW YORK – Online shopping behemoth Amazon’s website went down Thursday afternoon.

Amazon.com displayed a “We’re sorry!” error message as of 2:30 p.m.

“If you were trying to make a purchase, please check Your Account to confirm that the order was placed,” the company wrote.  “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

The website was restored shortly after it went down.
