NYPD officer slashed trying to break up fight in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- A police officer was slashed with a boxcutter trying to break up a fight in Brooklyn, authorities said Monday.

The officer was called to Saratoga Avenue and Marion Street about 1:10 a.m. Sunday on reports of a large brawl, police said. She was breaking up the fight when a woman cut her on the left side of her face, police said.

The suspect, 27-year-old Xiomara Velez, has been arrested. Charges against her are pending.

The officer was treated and released.
