For the past few weeks, PIX11 News has been reporting on NYC correctional facility Rikers Island by going behind the prison walls and speaking to prison officials, correction officers and former inmates. These people have provided insight on the prison's broken system that needs reform.

But should officials shut down Rikers Island if reforms are not made?

Donna Lieberman, executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, and Gary Heyward, a former Rikers Island correction officer and inmate, talked about the prison's need for change and the possibility of a shutdown.
