VAN NEST, The Bronx – A woman is speaking out on Facebook after she was slashed in the face, kicked and robbed while walking in the Bronx.

The young woman, who asked to be called by her first name, Paula, says she was walking home along Holland Avenue around 12 a.m. Friday when a man came up behind her, slashing and kicking her in the face.

"When I was pushed to the ground and kicked on the mouth he grabbed my bag which contained my ID, debit card, and other personal belongings," she said.

Police say the suspect tried to steal her cellphone and slashed her in the face when she refused to hand it over.

"I am grateful to be alive and recovering.  I know you all are probably aware of it but I stress you be careful walking alone in the evening especially with your belongings out."

She describes her attacker as a Hispanic man roughly 5 feet 5 inches tall who was wearing a beanie.

"I've always read and heard about these stories and never thought that I would experience it myself.  I do not wish this upon anyone.  Again please be careful and always aware of your surroundings."

No arrests have been made in the attack.
