NEW YORK — It's here once again — New York Fashion Week!

Helping to kick off the festivities is Grammy-Award winning singer Ciara, who is the new face of Keds sneakers. The brand celebrated its 100th birthday at a pre-fashion week party on Wednesday night.

Ciara "1-2- Stepped" onto the music scene nearly a decade ago and has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide.

Now she's dancing into a new role of brand spokeswoman for Keds sneakers, just in time for the company's 100th anniversary.

"I used to be the little girl buying the shoes and now I'm in the campaign!" Ciara told PIX11 News at the pre-fashion week party, co-sponsored by Refinery29.

It's a new venture for the singer, who is fresh off her 6th studio album "Jackie." Fans credit her new album as being one of her most personal to date.

While she's opened about her son and her relationship with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, there was one subject that was off limits at the Keds Centennial Party.

Per her publicist, reporters were not allowed to ask about reports that the singer filed a $15 million defamation lawsuit against her ex-fiance and child's father, rapper Future.

Still, Ciara appears to be putting her best foot forward.

And truly seems to echo the same statement as the brand she now represents.

"It's all about women's strength and balancing women's strength with femininity," Ciara said. "I think every day you wake up its a choice of how you make it. And I choose to be the best I can be every day."
