1 dead after fire rips through first floor of 2-story home in Queens

WHITESTONE, Queens — One person is dead after a fire ripped through the first floor of a 2-story home in Queens Thursday night, officials said.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a two-story home on Riverside Drive around 11:23 p.m. Thick flames tore through the first floor of the building.

After the fire was extinguished, a 74-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive. The man, identified as Mario Dimisa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the first is still under investigation.
