MANHATTAN -- A pool of "Deadpool" fans were eager to catch a glimpse of star Ryan Reynolds at the AMC Theater in Times Square Monday night.

"I'm so psyched to be here. Don't worry, I promised myself I wouldn't cry," Reynolds told the crowd.

For Reynolds, this fan greeting is a long time in the making.

"I've been begging and pleading to get this movie made for 11 years. And when footage was leaked, the fans responded and overwhelmed the studio," Reynolds said.

Unlike your typical Marvel comic-book characters, Deadpool is a violent, sassy, fourth-wall smashing, antihero with crazy inner monologue.

In the time it's taken to get the movie made, Reynolds has made more than two dozen films, got married and had a baby with wife, Blake Lively.

The latter is something he says his character would definitely not appreciate.
