1 dead after fire rips through Long Island apartment building

FREEPORT, Long Island – One person is dead after a Freeport apartment building caught fire Thursday morning, according to Mayor Robert T. Kennedy.

The identity of the victim has not been publicly released pending family notification, fire officials would only say it was a senior citizen who died.

The fire started around 10 a.m., according to officials, firefighters brought it under control in about 15 minutes.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
