EAST ELMHURST, Queens — A massive gridlock at LaGuardia Airport Monday night is causing major traffic throughout the area, delaying buses, taxis and other car services for more than two hours.

The traffic jam started around 4 p.m. due to an incident on the Grand Central Parkway, the Port Authority said. The traffic outside created a gridlock inside the airport as well.

The NYPD is at LaGuardia Airport to help Port Authority officials with the traffic flow.

Waze, a traffic and navigation app, advised all commuters to avoid the area because traffic was 26 minutes slower than usual, the app wrote on Twitter.

However, Twitter users are reporting a much longer wait time. People who are outraged by the traffic jam said they have been waiting for more than two hours trying to get into and out of the airport. Some trying to come in have missed their flights because of it.

“This is the worst traffic ever. Stay away from #laguardia airport at all costs. 2 hours and haven’t gone 500 feet,” one Twitter user wrote.

“There are elderly people and children waiting for hours without an explanation,” Twitter user @CandiceSC1 tweeted to PIX11 News, who has been waiting at the airport for more than three hours. She also said she has not received a concrete answer on the cause of the delay.

Taxis also haven’t been able to reach the area. There are hundreds of people waiting in line for yellow cabs inside the airport.

Buses Q47, Q48, Q70 and M60SBS are also delayed, according to the New York City Transit Bus Service.
