The man allegedly pulled out a knife and slashed Smith several times on his face and body.

"I was lucky my leather jacket stopped the knife, if it didn't I would have been dead," says Smith.

Smith who's originally from Newark, New Jersey spent hours in the operating room with surgeons carefully fixing the deep wounds he suffered.

This is the third slashing in recent weeks in New York City.

"He got me without warning I have no idea who he was, he can get somebody else," says Smith.
