MIDTOWN, Manhattan — A man slashed in the East Village over the weekend returned home from the hospital Monday evening.
Anthony Smith, 30, left Bellevue Hospital with a message for his attacker.
"I hope they get him," Smith said. "He needs to be off the street."
The NYPD released photos of the suspect Monday afternoon. He is described as being about 5-foot-6 and weighing 150 pounds. He is believed to be between 20 and 30 years old.
The man allegedly pulled out a knife and slashed Smith several times on his face and body.
"I was lucky my leather jacket stopped the knife, if it didn't I would have been dead," says Smith.
Smith who's originally from Newark, New Jersey spent hours in the operating room with surgeons carefully fixing the deep wounds he suffered.
This is the third slashing in recent weeks in New York City.
"He got me without warning I have no idea who he was, he can get somebody else," says Smith.
