BROOKHAVEN, Long Island — A drunk driver rear-ended a police car early Saturday morning, injuring an officer.

Carlos Morocho, 27, was driving while intoxicated eastbound on Sunrise Highway when he struck a marked police car, officials said. The officer was parked on the side of the highway helping a driver whose motorcycle caught fire.

After hitting the officer’s car, Morocho fled his car. He was caught a short time later.

The officer was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital to treat non-life threatening injuries.

Morocho faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of the incident, driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday.
