HUNTINGTON, N.Y. – A man who allegedly touched a young girl inappropriately at a Long Island library yesterday afternoon has been arrested.

Christopher Elgut, 28, approached an 8-year-old girl that was standing behind her mother at the counter at the Huntington Library on 338 Main St. about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Suffolk County police.

Cops say Elgut picked her up and then placed her behind a column where he groped her. The victim screamed before the creep fled on foot, only to be captured 20 minutes later nearby.

Elgut was charged with first degree sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of marijuana, police say.

He will be held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 4.
