1 dead, 1 injured in Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment fire

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn — A man is dead and a firefighter was injured after a 1-alarm fire swept through a brownstone in Bedford-Stuyvesant Friday afternoon.

The fire started around 2:27 p.m. at 440 Jefferson Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.  One man, identified by police as 53-year-old Michael Floyd died inside a third floor apartment.  EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

The injured person, a firefighter, was taken to Kings County Hospital with minor injuries.

According to witnesses, firefighters rescued another resident from an overhanging ledge outside a window.

The fire was under control as of 3:11 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
