Two Con Ed workers, contractor injured while responding to gas leak in the Bronx

THE BRONX — Two Con Edison workers and a contractor were injured as they responded to a gas leak in the Belmont section of the Bronx Tuesday.

Con Ed received a call around 1:30 p.m. about a gas leak at 188th Street and Park Avenue.

Crews arrived and called FDNY to assist.

While on the scene, two Con Ed workers and a contractor were attempting to determine the cause of the leak when they were struck with an electrical line.

All three workers were struck in the face, suffering first degree burns. They were treated at Jacobi Medical Center.

The cause of the gas leak has not been determined.

The electricity has been shut off in the area and crews are continuing to investigate.
