One dead, 1 hurt after car slams into tree on Long Island

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – One person is dead and another is hospitalized following a car crash in Long Island Tuesday morning.

The collision happened on the Meadowbrook State Parkway near the Southern State Parkway.

Nassau County police say two people were inside the vehicle when it struck a tree.

The first victim was pronounced dead. The other was taken to Nassau County Medical Center in unknown condition.

Authorities did not say if the car was speeding or if the collision was weather related. State police is also investigating the incident.
