QUEENS — When a stranded cat wandered on to the Grand Central Parkway during rush-hour traffic, a NYPD highway unit officer came to the rescue.

The cat accidentally ran onto the parkway Wednesday afternoon, according to the NYPD Facebook page.

The frightened cat was hiding under a silver mini van. The highway unit officer stopped the car and asked the driver to move forward slowly. The cat was thankfully unharmed, and he scooped it up and moved it to safety.

The officer stopped traffic just in time to save the feline.

“#ItsWhatWeDo,” the NYPD wrote.

“Cat and cop are now new friends and doing well!” the department wrote.

The cat’s name was not released.
