OAKLAND, Calif. — After circling for several hours above a Northern California airport Wednesday, a Southwest Airlines flight landed safely despite landing gear problems.
KRON-TV reports the Chicago-bound flight took off from Oakland about 6 a.m. It turned back due to issues with the landing gear.
Southwest flight 2547 circled the airport, burning fuel, before landing.
There are 139 passengers on the plane.
Emergency crews are on the ground on standby and the airport was put under a “yellow alert.”
No cause has been given for what is wrong with the plane’s landing gear.
Southwest and the airport did not immediately respond requests for comment.
