It has been in the plan all year and MTA Board Members have made it official.

Fare and toll increases have been included in preliminary budgets every year. For the past few cycles, the increases would be effective every other year.

They say they're committed to keeping the 2017 increase with the rate of inflation; which would be a 2% increase each year.

PIX11's Greg Mocker asked MTA Chairman Tom Prendergast if the board would consider a different fare package. Fare and toll proposals will be discussed in the Spring of 2016.

The agency also increased spending on service enhancements and is focusing on cost-cutting measures.

The previous fare and toll increase took effect in March of 2015. Hearings on the most recent increase would be scheduled for the fall of 2016.
