“I don’t want you as a fan, I don’t want you to laugh at a word that comes out of my mouth”

Wayne Brady has some forceful words for his haters and Twitter trolls.

“I think it’s funny as hell!" he said. “If you’re a fan and you say I’m not going to be your fan anymore because I just saw this picture of you in drag doing this show.”

Standing up to bullies--a cause he takes on in his new role as 'Lola' in the six-time Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots.

“It’s a message of be yourself, no matter what anyone else says, be strong," he explained.

A message he wishes someone shared with him when he was being picked on as a kid.

“It’s super easy to be negative but at the end of the day it’s much harder to be a positive person that stands up for yourself,” he said.

In this case, he's standing up in red, glittery high-heeled platform boots!

“It’s a full on workout," he said. "I think it’s one of the toughest roles I’ve ever done.”

And he's getting tips from the original diva, Billy Porter.

“Icing your feet, stretching out your calves, stretch your Achilles tendon," he listed. "Work on your ankles, make sure your knees are iced, and work on your lower back.”

Brady's brought the laughs in 'Whose Line Is It Anyway,' gave out money on 'Let's Make a Deal,' and sang his way to a Grammy nomination. But it's this role where he feels most alive.

"In Lola, I found a character that I can really be, live, give breath to," Brady said. "When you’re an actor you never want to become just a TV personality, I’ll go even further and say I don’t want to be just anything, I’m not just anything, you shouldn’t be just anything.”

Helping him prep for the part, his 12-year-old daughter, Maile.

“She’s my biggest fan," he smiled. “She’s so proud of me because this is what she wants to do as well, so she helped me study the lines, she was a fan of the show in the first place so in our family this is something we share.”

Now they also share an appreciation for what it takes to walk around in heels.

“I think I’ve been a bad boyfriend in the past, like in the airport, come on the flight, hurry up, why are you in those heels," he said. "Never again, now it's just hey babe, how can I help, can I give you a piggy back?”

And when he does get a new girlfriend...?

“I feel like I’m very qualified to pick out amazing shoes for her,” he laughed.

Wayne Brady will be in Kinky Boots through March 27.
