BROOKLYN – A gas leak is under control after it forced the evacuation of multiple homes in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn Wednesday night.

While the leak isn't completely "fixed," the New York City Fire Department said the situation was contained Thursday morning.

Fire officials said crews responded to 64th Street between 11th and 12th avenues in Brooklyn on reports of a gas leak about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Apartments 1114, 1116, 1120 and 1122 on 64th Street were all evacuated, but residents since have been allowed to return to their homes.

They had been evacuated Wednesday night after a gaping hole was discovered in the high pressure gas main under 64th Street between 11th and 12 avenues.

There were no injuries.
