CORONA, Queens – A Queens teenager just blocks away from his home was struck and killed by a car after returning from a funeral Tuesday night, police said.

The New York Police Department said officers responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck at Northern Boulevard and Junction Boulevard about 10:50 p.m.

Police determined a black Toyota Camry traveling westbound on Northern Boulevard struck 17-year-old Jaremello Ovidio who was attempting to cross at the intersection of Junction Boulevard, from the southeast corner to the northeast corner.

The vehicle did not remain at the scene and continued traveling westbound on Northern Boulevard.

Ovidio, who police say was walking home from a funeral, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are investigating.
