THE BRONX – A man wearing a hard hat allegedly stole several hundreds in cash from a Bronx variety store  after not getting a refund for sneakers Friday afternoon, police said.

The New York Police Department said the thief demanded a refund for a pair of sneaker that he purchased inside a Forever 99 variety store at 1560 Westchester Ave. When he was notified that he could not get a refund, exchange only, he marched up behind the counter area and removed $600 cash from the register, police said.

On his way out, he pushed a 36-year-old man who tried to impede his exit to the ground, according to cops.

The victim was not injured and the culprit fled in a white Nissan Altima westbound on Westchester Avenue, authorities said.

The man is described by cops to be about 40 years old and about 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt, tan work boots and a reflective vest.

Police released surveillance video in hopes of catching the disgruntled crook.
